CASA DE PIEDRA

Located in the Sierra de Santiago mountains of Nuevo León, the house is nestled within a landscape of striking topography, where the shape and scale of the Sierra Madre Oriental define the character of the place. The project stems from a sustained quest: to establish a dialogue with the geography, understanding that the territory influences the way in which we inhabit and construct aesthetic sense.

The house is configured from two longitudinal volumes that reinterpret, on a domestic scale, the logic of the mountains. A central void is created between them, articulating the entrance and organizing daily life, establishing a controlled transition between interior and exterior. Far from opening indiscriminately to the landscape, the house frames and filters it through thick walls, built with stone collected from the immediate surroundings. This process reflects an understanding of sustainability as a connection to the place: reducing the transport of resources and building with local labor.

The project was developed in a context marked by a forest fire that radically transformed the site. Far from abandoning it, it was embraced as an opportunity to participate in its regeneration, accompanying a natural recovery process. The stone used often retains lichens, organisms resulting from the symbiosis between fungi and algae. Their presence introduces a living dimension to the architecture, highlighting the continuity between the built environment and nature.

The house proposes a way of living that does not seek to dominate the landscape, but to delimit it, filter it and establish a contained and precise relationship with it.
